Yes, I am the treasurer for Service Club, and yes, the Service Club does not collect dues from its members. So, you sak, what's the deal with having a treasurer then?  Well, because Service Club is an approved IRC 501(c)(3) charity, we can accept tax-deductible donations from people. I make sure that these donations given to the Service Club are deposited into our account and used to help people. We use donations to help people by buying and delivering food to people at their homes - people who we hear are in need of food or who are going through a tough time (e.g., death or sickness). We use donations to help people pay for medical expenses, and to donate to other charities who may be in dire need of funds to continue their good works.

If you would like to donate to the Service Club, please contact us.

New Zealand has a Random Acts of Kindness Day and it is Sept. 1, 2008.

Their website, Random Acts of Kindness tells all about it. I think we should have such a day in America, too - and, all across the world for that matter! Think of the goodness that can be accomplished!

About Jen Chen

I like to keep a list of things that people have done for me to remind me of what I can do for others.  Here are a few few random acts of kindness that I have appreciated the most.

  • smile at check-out clerks and people in the stores
  • pick up trash that you see on the street
  • be neat and tidy so your mess doesn't frustrate others

I was born in a small town outside of Bryan, Texas, and enjoyed Girl Scouts, piano lessons, arts and crafts, and caring for my dog, Tippy, while growing up. I have always appreciated nice things that people did for me and it makes me feel good to give back to others. I am a member of the Service Club because it helps me to be a better person by reminding me to think of other people.
